Professional statement

Stephanie Keoseyan is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Tucson, AZ. Stephanie specializes in helping clients better understand their emotions, especially those that are overwhelming, confusing, and sometimes harmful to relationships. Stephanie works with clients who suffer from borderline personality disorder, depression, PTSD, phobias and OCD. Her clients often feel like their inner worlds are chaotic, which results in acting impulsively, and can lead to fights with loved ones, substance abuse or addiction, or self-harm. Through therapy, Stephanie supports clients to build emotion regulation skills, increasing self-esteem, finding greater peace in relationships and building a life worth living.

Stephanie’s approach to helping clients stems from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), exposure therapy, and mindfulness-based therapy. She teaches clients coping skills to help them in moments of distress, including grounding exercises, self-regulating techniques, and visualizations. After effective practice of these coping skills, Stephanie then teaches clients how to decrease their physical and emotional reactions to certain triggers. She also supports clients as they process through their relationships with others and take steps towards building healthy, fulfilling connections. Stephanie's clients will also work towards identifying their values, which they can use to build a life they will be excited to wake up in every day.

Stephanie earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Millersville University, where she was mentored by Yevgeny Botanov, a graduate of the Linehan Institute. Her goal is to teach clients how to challenge their assumptions, practice self-compassion, and to see themselves as strong individuals who are worthy of joy and wellbeing. Her style is strengths-based and trauma-informed, as well as empathetic and validating.

Message to clients

I've often been asked why I am a therapist. When I first began, it was a pretty generic “to help people” answer, but the deeper I got into my craft, that answer began to change. Nowadays, I would say that it is my sincere belief that every person has infinite dignity. Unfortunately, many people do not have enough people in their lives who treat them as if that is true. In therapy, I take it as an honor to walk with individuals through what is often great pain with the goal of being at least one person who treats them with the knowledge of their infinite dignity. This, I have found, is in itself healing.

Apart from this, it is my secondary goal to help my clients come into contact with reality. So often we are exaggerating or diminishing the past, the present or the future, in ways that lead to unnecessary conflict or otherwise suppression of necessary struggle. It is only once we live in reality is it truly is, that we can decide how we want to build our lives moving forward, and do what is effective to get there.

While this may all sound somewhat abstract, I know those seeking therapy have real problems that require real solutions. It is because of this that I take a very practical, skills based approach to therapy as well. My final goal, is to help you gain the skills that you need to make the changes you want.
