Professional statement

Vanessa Leveille is a licensed therapist specializing in supporting mothers of color through the transformative and developmental stage of becoming a mother, called Matrescence. With a focus on resilience, confidence, and self-discovery, she provides personalized clinical coaching to navigate the complexities of womanhood and motherhood.

Many of her clients seek guidance during the early years of motherhood, experiencing challenges such as managing mental load, struggling with default parenting, postnatal depletion, difficulty managing emotions and life changes since becoming a mother, and establishing a strong sense of self amidst their new role. They are ambitious women who feel uncertain about who they are now that they are a mother, and want to make intentional and impactful changes in their life.

Drawing from a holistic and integrative approach, Vanessa incorporates techniques from various modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care. She creates a safe and nurturing space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, empowering them to cultivate self-awareness and make meaningful changes in their lives.

With advanced training in Matrescence and a deep understanding of the unique cultural and societal factors impacting mothers of color, Vanessa is committed to providing culturally competent and inclusive care. She values the importance of building strong therapeutic relationships and collaboratively tailors treatment plans to meet the individual needs of each client.

In addition to her clinical work, Vanessa is a sought-after speaker, business strategist for mothers, and creator of online programming aimed at supporting mothers of color on their journey through Matrescence. She offers remote therapy sessions for clients across Massachusetts and Texas and is available for consultations to discuss how she can best support them on their path to healing and self-discovery.

Message to clients

So you became a mother, and everything changed. Perhaps you anticipated the sleepless nights and the endless diaper changes – those are expected parts of the journey. But what you may not have realized is the profound internal and developmental shift that comes with motherhood, known as Matrescence.

Becoming a mother is more than just the physical act of giving birth or caring for a child. Matrescence, adolescence but for mothers, is a period of intense change. It's a deep, transformative process that impacts every aspect of your being – emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. It's about navigating the complex maze of identity shifts, relationship dynamics, and self-discovery that comes with becoming a mother.

Before I stumbled upon the concept of Matrescence, I, like many others, didn't fully grasp the magnitude of becoming and being a mother in my womanhood. But once I understood it, everything changed.

I realized that the traditional approach to maternal mental health often overlooks this crucial aspect of motherhood, and sometimes even pathologizes it.

That's why my work is different. I'm here to shine a light on Matrescence and provide you with the support and guidance you need to navigate it with grace, confidence, and resilience. Together, we'll explore the depths of your experience, uncovering hidden insights and empowering you to embrace this transformative journey with intention and clarity. Because while motherhood may change everything, it's also an opportunity for profound growth and self-discovery.

Therapist's note

I've partnered with Mentaya to simplify insurance reimbursement for my clients. Here's what you need to know:

1. Mentaya's Role: I utilize Mentaya to explore reimbursement possibilities for your out-of-network therapy sessions. They handle claims and insurance paperwork to assist you in getting reimbursed.

2. Reimbursement Process: If eligible, Mentaya will manage your claims for a 5% fee per claim, paid by me.

3. Optional Participation: Using Mentaya for reimbursement is entirely optional, and it won't affect your therapy service quality or availability.

4. Therapist Neutrality: I, as your therapist, do not benefit from your choice to use Mentaya. My goal is to support your well-being.

To see if you qualify for reimbursement, you can go to Mentaya's website and use their benefits calculator. If you qualify, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed.
