Dr. Vanessa Somohano (she/her) is a licensed Clinical Psychologist based in the Portland Metro Area and is dedicated to serving a diverse population in the state of Oregon. She graduated with her M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Humboldt State University in California in 2013, after which she worked as a Substance Use Counselor for two years. Her work inspired her to go back to school and earn her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and contribute to the development and implementation of mindfulness-based approaches for PTSD and Substance Use Disorders. She completed her doctoral training in 2020 and her two-year postdoctoral residency at the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 2022.
Dr. Somohano has completed rigorous training in the treatment of many mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar, and transitional related disorders, and has specialized training in evidence-based treatments for PTSD and Substance Use Disorders, as well as working with Veteran populations. Dr. Somohano offers individual and group psychotherapy via telehealth services with adults who are motivated and committed to their mental wellness goals. She uses an evidence-based, time-sensitive approach to ensure clients are receiving treatments backed by science, and meeting their goals within an efficient timeframe. Dr. Somohano works collaboratively with clients to select effective and tailored treatments that are suited to each individuals’ strengths and capabilities. She most often leverages mindfulness- and acceptance-based approaches to assist individuals in changing their relationship to their thoughts and emotions, increase distress tolerance and emotion regulation skills, and building daily rituals of self-care so clients may live more aligned with the values they hold dearest to their heart.
Dr. Somohano is currently accepting clients for telehealth services and is available Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. .
