Professional statement

Dr. Walter J. Matweychuk is a Licensed Psychologist practicing on Park Avenue in Manhattan near Grand Central Station. Adults worldwide seek his practical, solution-oriented approach to their emotional pain and behavioral problems. He is known as an expert in the therapy he does. Many of his patients have been in treatment before for anger, relationship problems, depression, and family conflicts without relief from traditional insight-oriented, venting therapy. Dr. Matweychuk actively helps them learn to focus on what is under their control to change this rather than hoping other people will change or life will get easier. His patients find that he imparts uncommon wisdom, and they feel better and get better long-term results in a relatively short period.

Therapy sessions with Dr. Matweychuk are problem-focused, where he and his patients identify, discuss, and modify self-defeating attitudes and behaviors. Dr. Matweychuk is highly transparent and urges all prospective patients to observe one of his weekly Zoom demonstration sessions on Saturdays at 9 AM Eastern. During these Zoom conversations, he helps a volunteer willing to discuss a personal problem with others observing the conversation. After forty minutes, Dr. Matweychuk takes questions from the audience. Attending the demonstration is the best way to see if Dr. Matweychuk's solution-oriented therapy is what you have been seeking.

Dr. Matweychuk is a psychologist on the staff of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and is an adjunct professor of Applied Psychology at New York University. He has written books and articles for both professionals and non-professionals. He has served as a subject matter expert consultant on a project for the United States Navy. This project aimed to develop a brief, evidence-informed mental fitness and endurance classroom program teaching Navy recruits and enlisted Sailors skills for addressing disruptive thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Message to clients

Before starting therapy, do your homework! With thirty-four years of experience, I will not waste your time with insight, dwelling on the past, feelings, and venting. I do not practice in this way. I practice a practical, problem-focused approach that will teach you how to effectively respond to other people and life's adversities and quandaries. After a few sessions, many patients will ask, "Why don't they teach what you do to kids in schools?" Once patients deeply appreciate the sensible message I am teaching, they wish they had learned it years before finding their way to me. Better late than never!

I believe in transparency. I suggest you witness one of my free Saturday Zoom demonstrations. Attending a demonstration is the best way to see how I will work with you. I have conducted these free weekly demonstrations at 9 AM in New York on Zoom for the past three and a half years (as of January 23rd, 2024). Well, over one hundred and fifty people attend from all over the world. This conversation is not a role-play but a problem-focused educational demonstration of how I work with people. After forty minutes of conversation with the volunteer, I answer questions from the audience. It is free to attend. Go to my website or email me to request the Zoom link.

Do your homework. A great deal is at stake. Do not waste your time, money, and the opportunity to get more out of life.
