Professional statement

Zakeeyah Khan is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NY who specializes in seeing individuals with anxiety, childhood trauma, and/or substance or alcohol abuse, including prescription medications. In addition, many of her clients are navigating major life transitions, like entering the working world, transitioning careers, or becoming a new parent.

Zakeeyah draws from a variety of treatment modalities including Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gestalt Therapy, and mindfulness practices. She has found that CBT and mindfulness practices are especially effective in treating clients with Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

When working with clients with a history of trauma, including physical and sexual abuse, Zakeeyah takes an individualized treatment approach that takes into account the client’s needs and goals. She usually incorporates elements of Gestalt Therapy, breath work, mindfulness techniques, and chair work. Zakeeyah helps individuals develop a safety plan and learn new tools that they can use to cope in their daily life. She provides a safe space for her clients to approach trauma work, and allows them to proceed at their pace.

Zakeeyah is passionate about the work she does and wants to help her clients rewrite their story and leave sessions feeling empowered to take control of their life.

Message to clients

Suffering in silence can be incredibly painful. You freeze up at the thought of sharing your story with others around you, afraid of their reactions. You’re angry at yourself for not being able to get it together, and you berate and belittle yourself daily. Whether you are struggling to cope with feelings of profound despair, manage an addiction, or transition careers, you second guess yourself at every juncture. You’re living in space of uncertainty and loneliness. And as much as you want to reach out, you continue to hide your truth out of fear and shame, putting up a guard that seems impenetrable.

You ache to get to the core of who you really are, to discover your zest for life. You want to make decisions with confidence and banish your self-doubt. You want to be defined by your strengths, not just your struggles; to embrace self-compassion, because you deserve it.

If you’re willing to take the first step towards feeling deeply connected to yourself, don’t hesitate to give me a call for a free, 15-minute phone consultation. I’m eager to get to know you, assist you in rewriting your story, and cheer you on as you take the steps to share it with wonder and pride.
