The decision to participate in psychotherapy can bring up mixed emotions, just as with other important and impactful life decisions and events. Exciting and perhaps a bit scary at the same time. As a therapist I hope to create a safe space for you to feel comfortable discussing your thoughts and concerns. For me, it is important that we work collaboratively to help you achieve better mental health and overall well-being. I utilize an integrative approach to therapy, including person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness-based strategies. Through these techniques it is my hope that you become empowered to reach your full potential. I have worked with many clients who have shared with me the immense ways in which they suffer. I have also seen so much positive change that happens when someone has hope that things can get better for them and the confidence to take the first step on their journey. I truly feel everyone has the potential to grow and heal. I would love to help guide you during this process. I have worked throughout my academic and professional career to make myself accessible as a person and psychiatrist. I work very hard to create an environment where you can speak openly and honestly about your life and the things that are preventing you or your child from being the best "you." I want to help you feel confident and more able to do and get the things that are important to you out of life. I know it may be difficult to face personal struggles (anxiety, sadness, loss, grief, change, relationship distress, identity struggles, etc.), yet I will work to create a caring space where we can work together to assist you to access your talents, help you to realize or remember the abilities you have, as well as learn new ways to manage stress to grow and flourish. I will work with you to create an individual (and or family) treatment plan. If you are struggling with an illness that would benefit from medication, we can discuss options that may benefit your particular situation/diagnosis. I also provide therapy and medication (if needed) in one appointment if that is more appropriate for your circumstance. What is most important is to feel comfortable and heard, and I will do everything I can to make our work together collaborative.

I work with people who are feeling overwhelmed by personal problems, depression, and anxiety. I’m interested in learning about you and helping you explore whatever issues and problems you’d like to address. In my experience, as you begin to feel supported by me and work on finding out who you are and what you want, you’ll develop your own personal and creative solutions.

So many people feel alone in their struggles, as well as disconnected from friends, family, and self. Seeking support is a brave step that signifies the desire for change, fulfillment and/or connection. Message to clients with an eating disorder: Struggling with an eating disorder can be such a lonely and isolating experience. Feelings are often internalized and it feels foreign or too scary to externalize them in a state of pure vulnerability. The eating disorder behaviors are helpful to numb self and distract from the current emotions and/or present stressors in your life. Although CBT and DBT skills can be helpful tools to help restructure distorted thinking, regulate emotions and improve distress, I find that it does not shift behaviors. This result leaves people feeling hopeless and frustrated. I feel passionate that the work I do with my clients not only improves symptoms, but is also transformative in the way they relate to family, friends and self.

So much of the time, we're expected to project an image of ourselves as successful, happy, funny, smart, tough. But I would encourage you to give yourself permission to not have to face your worries alone. This is a place where you can talk openly and not feel judged. Together, we can work towards identifying and changing the things that in your life that are keeping you from feeling your best.
For men: It's no secret that traditionally, men are much less likely than women to seek mental health care. Sometimes, even the idea of asking for help can conflict with strongly ingrained social norms about needing to be tough. A the same time though, so many of the issues that men face can be quite impairing to our functioning and disruptive to the relationships with the people we love the most.
