Practice Information

The Center for Couples Therapy is a premier relationship counseling group practice in La Jolla and throughout San Diego. We work with couples, individuals, teens and families. Many of our clients come in to address communication challenges, conflict style issues, differing backgrounds and values, life transitions, traumas impacting relationships, or deciding whether to stay or leave. We are particularly passionate about serving premarital couples, new parents, couples in conflict, couples dealing with infidelity and betrayal, and relationship and intimacy renewal.

FAQS

What services does your practice offer?

We offer individual, couple and family psychotherapy. As a group, our style is goal-directed, non-judgmental, and supportive. When we begin with an individual or couple, we start building a connection right away. We discover their perspectives and their own efforts to get unstuck. We share our ideas about what might be helpful and invite experimentation. Our clients typically leave a first session with something to start trying out or a useful tool to start practicing with.

What are your practice's specialties?

We offer in person therapy in La Jolla and throughout the San Diego area, and virtual sessions throughout California. We offer a Preparation for Marriage (or moving in together) individualized course, Couple's Intensive Weekend Retreats (for one couple at a time) and small group, private Couples Workshops.

Among our therapists, we are trained in Gottman Couples Therapy, Developmental Model Couples Therapy, The Institute for Relational Intimacy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy, NARM Trauma Therapy, and Mindfulness. We are all lifelong learners, continually broadening our scope of training and experience.

Why should I choose your practice?

We tailor our approach to the unique challenges that each individual or couple faces: inviting understanding, and offering new tools and fresh skills. We help our clients integrate their new insights to build the lives and relationships they aspire to create.

In our sessions, we often use mindfulness skills to focus attention and awareness on the essential aspects of the situation. We support our clients in slowing things down to make real and sustainable progress. Working with members of our team, clients discover new capabilities in themselves. They become clearer about their own, and their partner's, roles in creating their difficult situations. They are empowered to make changes that support growth, create positive changes, increase empathy, and move toward resolution and healing.

How does payment work at your practice?

We accept all major credit and debit cards, and while we are not on any insurance panels, we are able to provide Superbills that clients can submit to their insurance for possible reimbursement from out-of-network benefits.
