Practice Information

Have you struggled to find connection or have difficulty maintaining relationships? Do you do creative work and find yourself blocked or lost in the process? Do you find yourself asking "what's the point?" Or maybe you feel lonely -- even in a room full of people. You might be a Loveable Weirdo.

A "lovable weirdo" is someone who might feel out of place or doesn't always feel like they belong. Maybe you're the "black sheep" in your family. You might identify as an Introvert or as a creative or artistic person. Or you might be neurodivergent or have a diagnosis of ADHD or an Autism Spectrum Disorder.  Regardless, you find yourself longing to connect more with others and to feel more confident as your authentic self. Many Los Angeles therapists bill themselves as a "therapist for creatives" but tend to focus on career aspirations or fame rather than trying to understand you deeply and holistically. At TherapySmith, being a "loveable weirdo" means more than just what you do for a living or how others may perceive you.

You are a person to be understood, not a problem to be solved.

At TherapySmith, we start with the idea that there is already a lot about you that is strong and worthy. We take our time to explore who you are, including your family history, in order to understand how your past influences your present. As your relationship with your therapist develops, you will also pay attention to the interpersonal dynamics. Working this way can alleviate the pressure and anxiety that "lovable weirdos" may feel in other parts of their lives.

What services does your practice offer?

TherapySmith is a group of Los Angeles therapists for creatives, black sheep, outsiders, introverts, neurodivergent folx, and all the loveable weirdos! We provide in-person psychodynamic psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups for people in Los Angeles. Additionally, we also provide quality long-term psychotherapy to people all over California via telephone and video.

What are your practice's specialties?

TherapySmith clinicians specialize in working with people who live on the fringes and move in liminal spaces: LGBTQ+ folx, artists, immigrants, introverts, neurodivergent and neuro-spicy people -- Loveable Weirdos. We have special expertise in men's issues, LGBTQ+ affirmative psychotherapy, relationship counseling, polyamory, consensual and ethical nonmonogamy, sex work, and kink affirmative psychotherapy. We take a whole person approach to treating issues like depression, anxiety, trauma, job stress, and relational issues.
