Laura Whiteley MD is an adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist located on the East Side of Providence. She specializes in anxiety disorders, mood disorders, attentional issues, and college and work issues. Dr. Whiteley completed her adult psychiatry residency and her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Brown University, and a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) T32 research fellowship at Rhode Island Hospital. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and earned her medical degree from Temple University. In addition to her clinical practice, she is the Associate Director of the Brown General Psychiatry Residency and has been the recipient of teaching and mentorship awards by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown.

Virginia Curtis PMHNP-BC is an associate of Dr. Whiteley's and also sees children, adolescents and adults in Dr. Whiteley's practice. She is a board-certified mental health nurse practitioner, with a Masters in Nursing (MSN) from Boston College and bachelor's in psychology from the University of Rhode Island. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Virginia worked with Dr. Laura Whiteley as a Research Interventionist and Administrator in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior and in the Young Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Program at Rhode Island Hospital. In this role, she was trained in delivering evidence based behavioral interventions through projects funded by the NIMH. Virginia is passionate about providing high-quality, well-rounded mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults. Her specialties include treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder, Anxiety Disorders (including Panic Disorder and OCD), and Depression. In addition, Virginia has extensive ​​experience treating college and graduate students.

What services does your practice offer?

We can treat psychiatric conditions with therapy and medications. We utilize evidence-based behavioral interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). When using medications, our clinicians are thoughtful, conscientious and judicious.

Our office is conveniently located on the east side of Providence, on college hill, and within walking distance from Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, and Johnson and Wales University. In order for treatment to be both accessible and convenient, we offer telepsychiatry services in addition to in-person appointments.
