Professional statement

Helene Jacobs, MD is a Yale-trained child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist based in NYC. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. After receiving her Medical Doctorate from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1988, Dr. Jacobs completed her Psychiatry Residency at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and her Child and Adolescent Fellowship at Yale Child Study Center. She earned NEI Master Psychopharmacology Certification and has additional training in Functional Medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine.

Dr Jacobs is passionate about using a holistic approach. She helps patients discover how their current lifestyle habits affect their mood, abilities and overall health. She offers integrative therapy including: psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, nutritional counseling, breathing, relaxation and guided imagery exercises. Dr. Jacobs helps her patients develop a wider array of tools and healthier habits that allow them to heal—using the lowest amount of medication to achieve their highest level of wellness, find their passion and thrive.

Dr. Jacobs specializes in the areas of ADHD, depression, anxiety, developmental learning and processing differences, including giftedness, parent guidance, and issues of gender and sexuality across the life cycle.

She uses her warm, non-judgmental style to help patients discuss sensitive topics and the safe, nurturing therapeutic relationship to explore how experiences produced useful strategies for past situations and develop new, more adaptive strategies for current situations.

Dr Jacobs has worked on faculty at Yale University in various settings, as well as at local, free-standing, out-patient mental health centers, adolescent residential programs and group homes. Outside of private practice, Dr. Jacobs enjoys dancing, cooking vegan cuisine, writing, hiking, staying in touch with nature and everyday miracles.

Currently Dr. Jacobs offers remote therapy sessions and is looking forward to offering in-person sessions in the near future.
