Professional statement

The field of mental health is rapidly evolving during these very unique times we live in. We are getting to know more about how much we need our social connectedness, and the detrimental impact of loneliness and isolation on our wellbeing. Understanding how to address our emotional needs is an evolving art as much as it is a science. There is an intimate yet a complex dance between the neuroscience of brain networks, mind-body connection, as well as early and ongoing social-emotional development; all weaving together the unique tapestry of the person. Understanding "the person", and their subjective experience is thus crucial for our work in the mental health field as psychiatric conditions are not inherently ubiquitous in every culture, nor are they universal in how they manifest. This is why at my practice I strive to deliver a "person- centered", state of the art, trauma and culturally informed psychiatric service to my patients.

Message to clients

In my practice, I meet people where they are, listen to their narrative, understand their needs and help formulate a path to healing with them. We do that by celebrating our cultural roots as we destigmatize and treat mental illness.

This is a 100% telepsychiatry practice. Telepsychiatry limits the prescription of controlled substances such as benzodiazepines and stimulants, and as such I won't be able to prescribe these medications in this practice setting.

If you are looking for medication management only, but not psychotherapy, I typically won't be able to take on patients who are not actively in therapy. This can be discussed on a case by case scenario.

I have expertise in treating serious mental illness (Psychotic Disorders, Bipolar Disorder). I typically accept patients with serious mental illness who have enough support systems in the community and would work as a team member with their PCP, therapist and community stabilizing teams. Telepsychiatry practice limits accepting patients with serious mental illness who don't have a team in place taking care of them, and these patients are best served by seeing a psychiatrist in an office based practice.
