Kate Gilbert is a Ph.D Anthropologist and Licensed Clinical Therapist (LICSW) who works with people from all walks of life on issues as varied as depression and anxiety, diagnosed and undiagnosed trauma, trauma of immigration, racism and social injustice, experiences of childhood abuse, intra-family conflict, grief, and loss. Ms. Gilbert received her Bachelor's degree from Harvard University, her M.Phil and Ph.D. in Anthropology from Yale University, taught at Yale and at Amherst College, and then followed a lifelong dream to work in clinical therapy and returned to school to receive her MSW from Boston University. Ms. Gilbert has a special focus on the anthropological, cultural, familial, political and historical background to trauma and healing and received a certificate in Trauma Work from Boston University where she studied with Professor Kathleen Flinton.
Ms. Gilbert has worked in community health with new mothers and babies, in a school with traumatized children, and most recently at Freedom Trail Clinic/North Suffolk Mental Health Association with people dealing with homelessness, psychotic disorders, suicidal ideation, trauma, depression, anxiety, anger issues, and OCD. Ms Gilbert works psychodynamically, using a fluid, patient focused style that brings Attachment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Trauma Work, and the latest in Neurobiological insights to each session. She strives to meet each client where they are in the moment. Being in the moment means that we use whatever works for each client--whether that is a matter of the head or the heart, philosophy or poetry. The focus in session is always on the client's goals, resources, and ability to move forward.
Sessions take place weekly, via tele-therapy. Clients may request more than one session a week if they feel it is necessary and if space is available.
