Professional statement

Dr. Sima Paul M.D. is a licensed physician practicing psychiatry in NJ, NY, and PA. She works with children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. Many of Dr. Paul’s patients are looking for treatment to address anxiety, depression, mood swings, irritability, ADHD in children and adolescents up to middle school ages, OCD, and identity issues. She is particularly passionate about serving young adults and adolescents, as she specialized with a fellowship in child psychiatry at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, Columbia University. Dr. Paul has advanced training in the areas of ADHD, OCD, anxiety, and depression.

Dr. Paul is trained in medication management for target symptoms. When patients are able to verbalize their symptoms and the changes they would like to see over time, medications are often helpful. Most patients will experience an improvement in whatever symptoms led them to get treatment in the first place.

Dr. Paul's style is direct, straightforward, and compassionate. When she first starts to work with a patient she tries to understand exactly what they are feeling and their symptoms, in their own words.

Dr. Paul credits a great deal of her knowledge of psychiatry care to working in the psychiatric emergency room in the heart of New York City during her residency training.

Since the pandemic, Dr. Paul is doing exclusively telepsychiatry.

Message to clients

My job is to listen to you describe your symptoms and goals, and then work with you to find the most appropriate medications for your situation. I use a collaborative and ongoing approach to medication. In addition, I often encourage patients to seek other therapeutic outlets, including but not limited to talk therapy.

The way you feel in reaction to medication is important, and you will be heard. Together we'll review possible side effects and interactions, and balance all factors to achieve the best possible outcome.

I follow treatment guidelines outlined by the APA, and use evidence-based data to guide my medication choices. Often medications do take time to feel the full effect. Follow-up appointments ensure that the process remains collaborative.
