Akira Stuckey is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor located in Keene, NH. Akira enjoys working with individuals who feel trapped between wanting enormous change in their lives and clinging to their old ways of doing things. Many of her clients feel overwhelmed by stress on a daily basis, which leads to the instinct to either freeze or try to avoid their issues completely. For some, this is a result of a traumatic experience. Her clients routinely practice behaviors that once helped them, but now hold them back from feeling fulfilled, joyful, or productive. Akira helps her clients better understand their patterns, and replace the unhealthy habits with intentional, compassionate ones.
Akira believes in the strength of the mind-body connection. By paying attention to both, clients can access a deeper level of healing and insight. Akira’s goal is to explore the emotions that exist deep in the body and in the client’s subconscious mind. She encourages clients to listen to their bodies and observe how their bodies feel in the presence of increased emotion. Akira also teaches clients about family systems, relationship patterns, and how to connect with others in healthy ways. Clients also learn coping skills to use when they start to feel overwhelmed.
Akira earned a Master’s degree from Antioch University, New England. She has certification from The Center for Trauma and Embodiment at JRI and the Institute for Interpersonal Hypnotherapy. She is a person-centered, strengths-based therapist who places great importance on creating safe, welcoming therapy spaces. She also has training in trauma sensitive yoga to help clients access and relieve their emotional pain through movement, posture, and mindfulness.
