Professional statement

Amy Small is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who specializes in a narrative therapy approach to relating to problems in people's lives. She works with adults and couples who express challenges in relation to mood, anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, and adjustments to various stressors and problems one might encounter in one's life.

Amy draws on her background in martial arts and meditation to integrate narrative therapy with mindfulness exercises, body awareness, and physical movements. Through this embodied work, she supports people in their exploration of relationships to problems and in nurturing their preferred ways of being in the world.

Amy earned her BA in psychology from Swarthmore College and her Masters in Social Work from Simmons College School of Social Work. She has been practicing for over 20 years and yet always brings new knowledges and insights into her work. Through her unique approach, she helps people find new ways of connecting to their values and preferences, whether in addressing life transitions, relationship difficulties, or responses to trauma.
