Annie Miller is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She specializes in anxiety, adolescent-related topics, trauma, chronic pain and illness, and has a particular specialty in sleep disorders and insomnia. Annie’s practice is open to both adults and teenagers.
Clients often come to see Annie when anxiety or other concerns are preventing them (or their adolescents) from getting restful, restorative sleep. She uses her background and training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) to analyze clients’ sleep habits, and develop treatment plans tailored to their particular experiences. She may also implement techniques from Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), especially when the insomnia is related to trauma or chronic stress.
Annie particularly enjoys helping clients shift their mindset towards positive thinking in order to help them feel tangible results from therapy work in their everyday lives, based on principles of neuro-plasticity. This is especially applicable in her work with clients managing pain and chronic illness. She implements CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and EMDR to encourage her clients to challenge their negative thought patterns, and instead channel an optimistic mindset to reduce stress and the detrimental effect it can have on already-existing pain and illness. Annie’s practice is open to both adults and teenagers.

Insomnia - Sleep hygiene; sleep issues related to anxiety and life transitions
Adolescent mental health - Working with adolescents, teenagers, and parents on social, academic, and/or emotional challenges throughout teenage years; addressing anxiety, family conflicts, peer relationships, school stress, transition to college, social media pressures, self-esteem, hopelessness about the future, emotional deregulation
