Professional statement

Brandee Grissett is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in College Station, Texas. She works with individuals struggling with little to no motivation and an overall feeling of “stuckness” in several areas of their lives. She also works with those struggling with anxiety. This could be anxiety related to school, work, social relationships, or close relationships.

Brandee’s therapy approach focuses primarily on building a relationship with her clients first and foremost. She also utilizes Attachment, Mindful Self-Compassion, ACT, and EMDR. She strives to understand as best she can what it means to see the world through the eyes of her client. Then she begins to observe patterns of thinking and reacting, once she gains a clearer understanding, she shares this with the client to build the client's awareness of their inner world. She then partners with the client to explore where these patterns could have developed and how, at one point in time, might have been helpful. Together, Brandee and the client aim to cultivate a more compassionate inner voice.

Brandee graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2019 with an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Since then she has worked as a school-based counselor working with ages 5-18, in an inpatient substance abuse recovery program, and now works in private practice. Prior to starting her counselor education, Brandee worked as a Case Manager at a non-profit agency working with youth and families. While completing her master's program she worked as a QMHP at a Community Behavioral Health Clinic working children and adolescents.

Message to clients

Are there times when everything just seems HARD? All of the little decisions that add up over the course of a day can be paralyzing. Not only are you trying to navigate this crushing overwhelm, but you're also battling the inner critic that's tearing you down for struggling in the first place. "Why can't I snap out of it? What's wrong with me?" If you've had similar thoughts, trust me I get it. Sometimes you just want someone to look you in the eyes and tell you "it's okay" or "I see you and you're not alone". That's the tone I strive to create in my sessions. Connection and authenticity are at the core of my approach.

From the base of connection and authenticity, we'll look at what early relationships taught you about how to show up in the world. Which traits earned praise and those that were discouraged. Because more often than not, the same patterns are playing out in current relationships or how you relate to life's challenges.

I also use mindful self-compassion to build gentle awareness, without judging or trying to 'Why' it away (e.g. Why am I feeling this way? Why does that bother me so much?). And instead, learning to accept what's coming up and learning from it. We also start to cultivate an inner voice of compassion and make peace with the critic (who's often trying to protect us).
