Professional statement

Let therapy come to your couch! Cara Donahue offers convenient online sessions to women in Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts & Maine. She specializes in helping high-achieving, HSP women navigating anxiety, grief and unacknowledged loss to finally put themselves first. Cara serves as her clients' mentor, helping them to safely express how they actually feel, to connect to their inner compass, explore and create the life that best serves them.

Drawing from several therapy approaches, clients learn ways to bring relief to their brain and body, practice self-inquiry without self-judgment, and release deeply held, limiting beliefs. Cara also practices the Emotional Freedom Technique, alternately known as tapping: a therapy that leverages the body’s natural pressure points to free trapped subconscious beliefs and emotions. Clients benefit from Cara’s experience helping many through intense grief and stress. They leave therapy sessions feeling far more connected, cared for and confident in themselves.

Cara believes the body holds onto emotional and physical responses from trauma and loss. With Cara, clients peak underneath their symptoms to understand what's at their root, in order to address and release the suffering held there. She is a non-judgmental therapist who approaches mental health with curiosity, rather than labels. She teaches clients how to engage their thoughts and feelings without judgment and instead exist alongside them. She guides clients to engage with all of their parts, to foster self-acceptance, -compassion and -trust. Cara commits to giving her clients the felt sense of being understood and accepted. They leave therapy better equipped, confident and connected.

Message to clients

Let me start by saying this: You may hurt but you are not broken. You feel and think deeply, and often get told you're "too sensitive," like it's your kryptonite instead of your super power. Your inner and outer critics get so loud, they convince you there's something fundamentally wrong with you. So you've achieved, cared for everyone else and made it look easy from the outside, while hiding the pain you carry.

But you're here because a wise, courageous part of you knows you need and deserve better.

Right now, where can you turn that's safe to be real? When grief punches a hole in the middle of your life? When anxiety robs you again and again of sleep and shreds your worth with its claws? When you might start screaming if you have to pretend for one more second that, "it's no big deal"? Come take shelter. Connect with me - the kind of therapist and therapy that helps you find your inner compass and strengthens your voice, so you can speak your truth.

I am committed to providing you with a connected and compassionate experience. With me you will find a refuge and a resource, so that you can find your own way to live with what can't be changed, while learning ways to ease suffering and distress, as you build a life that serves you. Take the first step and schedule a 30-minute consult directly on my website to find out more.
