Professional statement

Carla Antonellis is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor. Carla supports individuals and couples. She enjoys working with those who are motivated to better understand themselves and their emotions, which often lead to lifestyle changes towards a more authentic way of living. Many of Carla’s clients arrive at therapy feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and anxious, whether that’s because of a major life transition or a period of transition, which can come with feelings of confusion, frustration, and grief. They might also face issues trusting others or being vulnerable with loved ones. Carla helps these clients to overcome their challenges and find a more comfortable sense of balance in their lives.

Carla begins therapy sessions with encouraging clients to slow down and become aware of what’s happening for them. She then asks clients to reflect on the origins of their distress, which can help them decide what to do with those uncomfortable emotions. Her primary therapy modality is Emotionally Focused Therapy, which has foundations in attachment theory. She also uses Narrative Therapy approaches to help clients see that they aren’t the problem, rather that there might be external factors impacting their situation. Through Family Systems Therapy, Carla helps clients understand the different parts of themselves and how those parts work together, with the goal of embracing the “messier” parts and understanding their role.  She is a nonjudgmental, caring therapist who strives to show up wholeheartedly for each client.

Carla earned a Master’s degree after spending 10 years in the field of education as a teacher. She believes that clients are the experts on themselves, and encourages clients to trust their intuition. She empowers clients to leave shame behind and to feel fully engaged in the trajectory of their lives.
