Professional statement

Chalice Mathioudakis is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Rumford, RI who specializes in helping sensitive LGBTQIA+ individuals with difficulties such as depression, anxiety, trauma, including social anxiety and challenges related to intersectionality. They have expertise in helping individuals build confidence and self esteem, as well as helping individuals work through gender-related challenges such as identity, expansiveness, and nonconformity. Chalice particularly enjoys working with neurodivergent individuals who are creatives or in the helping and healing professions, such as mental health or education.

Chalice’s style is flexible and creative, with an emphasis on therapeutic collaboration rather than upholding formal power dynamics between client and therapist. They offer transparency from the beginning of the therapeutic relationship, sharing that they live with a dynamic/episodic disability and how this may affect their attendance consistency at times. Those who have had negative past experiences with more traditional therapists may do well with Chalice’s relaxed demeanor. They utilize therapeutic self disclosure when appropriate and are willing to answer questions regarding their identity, professional training and lived experience.

Chalice also offers incorporating tarot into therapy, for those who are interested. Therapy sessions with tarot are process-oriented, with an emphasis on dialogue, inner-inquiry and wonder rather than pre-determined card definitions or conclusions. This may involve discussing tarot concepts and archetypes, or engaging in collaborative card interpretation through a Jungian therapy lens. The therapeutic value not only lies in what comes up in a client’s interpretation, but also what the interpretation elicits from the client’s subconscious mind.

Chalice’s goal is to help clients make long-lasting changes. Clients describe them as genuine, warm, and able to incorporate a mix of psychological and spiritual perspectives into session in a meaningful way. They look forward to meeting you for remote sessions.

Message to clients

Hello- welcome to therapy! Those who choose to work with me tend to describe themselves as a little different, weird, or peculiar. My mission is to create a space where the odd ducks can cultivate a deeper connection with themselves, navigate challenges, and work towards their goals without fear of judgment.

Here's what you can expect from initiating therapy with me:

• Phone Consultation: 15-30 min phone call to determine if we might be a good match. I'll ask you about the types of concerns you'd like to work on in therapy, and you'll have the opportunity to get a better feel for me, my personality, and the way that I work.

• Scheduling Remote Appointments: If we decide to move forward, we'll schedule your first appointment. You'll receive instructions on how to access the secure client portal where you'll complete initial paperwork before our session.

• First Appointment: We'll cover important topics such as the structure of sessions, communication preferences, and strategies to create a neuro-inclusive environment. We'll also discuss your goals for therapy and any initial concerns you may have. At the end, we'll reflect on our experience together and decide if we want to schedule another session or if I have a referral/alternative recommendation.

My goal is to create a therapy space that encourages collaboration, mutual respect, and honors your autonomy, agency, and self-determination. Therapy is where your voice is valued and your experiences are validated.

I’m delighted about the possibility of working with you and supporting you in your growth.
