Professional statement

Claire Palmer is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Yoga Teacher in Austin, TX. She works with young professionals who are struggling with anxiety, overwhelm, stress or OCD. These symptoms may be the result of major life transitions such as entering or exiting the workplace, beginning a new stage in a relationship or having one come to an end. Or perhaps these symptoms are by-products of unworkable strategies like avoidance, self-criticism or perfectionism. Clients who work with Claire often report that they struggle with “adulting” or that their strained relationship with self is getting in the way of their goals.

Claire works inside the framework of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. This evidence-based offshoot of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy takes a mindfulness-based approach to changing the way clients relate to their thoughts and emotions – especially the painful ones! You’ll learn how to break down unworkable thoughts and explore the many facets of emotions in order to create a healthy distance from these experiences. From this new viewpoint you can act based on what’s really important to you rather than from a place of fear and avoidance. For clients struggling with OCD the above approach is combined with Exposure & Response Prevention to reduce symptoms.

Claire imbues each session with her strengths of hope, humor and creativity. Her style is interactive and skills-based. Her goal is to help you discover something new during each session. Claire also enjoys incorporating yoga practices and ecotherapy (nature-based) techniques to enhance the therapeutic experience.

Claire offers a variety of telehealth and in-person session options to fit your needs. Therapy can take place via video, in office or while taking a stroll around the complex.

Message to clients

If we decide to partner up on your therapeutic journey my first hope is for you to be able to acknowledge the bravery it takes to be right where you are. My next hope (the big one!) is for you to be able to get to a place in life where you feel whole and integrated. Where you feel free to have open, non-judgmental conversations with each part of who you are – even the parts that you may dislike the most right now. My purpose is to help you feel heard and held along this journey, to be the witness that lets you know you are not alone in your suffering. From this place of courage, integration and compassionate acceptance you will become your own guide on the path towards a rich future full of life, vitality and meaning.
