Claire Palmer is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Yoga Teacher in Austin, TX. She works with young professionals who are struggling with anxiety, overwhelm and stress. These symptoms may be the result of major life transitions such as entering or exiting the workplace, beginning a new stage in a relationship or having one come to an end. Or perhaps these symptoms are by-products of unworkable strategies like avoidance, self-criticism or perfectionism. Clients who work with Claire often report that they struggle with “adulting” or that their strained relationship with self is getting in the way of their goals. Claire also specializes in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
Claire works inside the framework of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. This evidence based modality takes a mindfulness-based approach to changing the way clients relate to their thoughts and emotions – especially the painful ones! You’ll learn how to break down unworkable thoughts and explore the many facets of emotions in order to create a healthy relationship with experiences. From this new viewpoint you can act based on what’s really important to you rather than from a place of fear and avoidance. For clients struggling with OCD the above approach is combined with Exposure & Response Prevention to reduce symptoms.
Claire imbues each session with her strengths of hope, humor and creativity. Her style is interactive and skills-based. Her goal is to help you discover something new during each session. Claire also enjoys incorporating yoga practices and ecotherapy techniques to enhance the therapeutic experience.
Claire offers both telehealth and in-person session options to fit your needs. Therapy can take place via video, in office or while taking a stroll around the complex.
