Professional statement

Collin Pearman is a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Kansas City, MO, who works with individuals, couples, and families across the state of Missouri via video-based services. Many of his clients struggle to feel connected in their relationships or at peace in their daily lives and are at a loss to respond to their symptoms. He’s drawn to those who are the “black sheep” in their family, those on the neurodivergent spectrum, lgbtq+ communities, and those who are looking for purpose, joy, connection. Collin is particularly sensitive to clients facing moments of transition, like the death of a loved one, a change in employment status, breakups, loss of friendships, or traumatic situations, when the delicate balance can seem to tremble, and symptoms of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, shame, and self-doubt can emerge.

Collin’s approach is rooted in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based approach that focuses on helping clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, so that they can begin to make targeted change. He couples this work with concepts from Evolutionary Psychology, working to help clients understand their physical response to external stressors and how these responses may be adaptations or by-products from times long-past that continue to operate on us despite changes in our modern world. He works to help problem-solve ways to introduce moments of calm and improve relationships, to choose to respond rather than react in the face of change and stress.

Collin is focused on ensuring that his clients see real progress: his style is interactive, non-judgmental, and positions clients as the experts on where they are now, and where they want to go. Collin’s first priority in starting with a new client is ensuring that they feel safe, heard, understood, and respected; an equal partner in the therapeutic process.

Message to clients

No two people are the same, so no two therapy journeys will look the same. We'll work together to adjust the style of therapy, how we interact, and your treatment plan to fit with who you are as an individual.

Before we begin our sessions, you will have the opportunity to fill out an intake form that serves as a review of your current and past struggles, your relationship history, and more, like a 50,000 foot overview of your life. The more detail you can provide in this, the better! Your story is important to me, and how you write it tells me a lot about you. I promise you this; I will read every word.

My approach involves us collaborating to create "homework" assignments, but it's not going to be me assigning them to you. We come up with things together so you can take what we learn, talk about, and practice from our sessions out into the real world. That's where change actually happens.

I believe this with all my heart, that you have the power to change your life, and that doing so can also change your home, your family, or the spaces where you live, work, and play. And this in turn has the power to transform communities.

My practice, Home and Community Counseling, exists to help empower people to change their lives, their homes, and communities for the better.

Let's get started.
