Connor Curtis, a licensed independent clinical social worker serving clients across Rhode Island, strives to create a warm, approachable environment for clients to gently and safely process their experiences and feelings. Connor specializes in supporting young adults, undergraduate and graduate students, international students, medical students, and folks in the LGBTQ+ community.
Blending evidence-based clinical tools with warmth, humor, and empowerment, Connor has expertise in supporting clients who are experiencing grief, traumatic experiences across the lifespan, sexual and interpersonal violence, life transitions, and navigating peer and familial relationships. Connor brings clinical experience from employment at the University of Hartford, the Rhode Island School of Design, and currently at Brown University.
Connor has expertise and specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) Therapy through the International OCD Foundation for the gold standard treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Through structured and supported exposures to the content of unwanted and intrusive thoughts, urges, and images with the goal of reducing any compulsive behaviors that accompany these thoughts, clients will begin the process of unlearning cycles of fear and discovering their capacity to tolerate discomfort and anxiety without interrupting the lives they want to live. As with any treatment modality Connor utilizes, she emphasizes collaboration and compassion in developing the treatment plan with clients.
Connor approaches each client as a unique individual and pulls from attachment theory, insight-oriented therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and trauma-informed care to create tailored treatment plans that fit the needs of each client. Connor prioritizes her responsibility to stay culturally aware of how identity informs each person’s own experience.
