Professional statement

Dr. Darren Freeman-Coppadge is a counseling psychologist and psychiatric clinical pharmacist. He is licensed to practice psychology in MD and DE, with offices in Annapolis, MD and Rehoboth Beach, DE. He also has the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) and can practice telepsychology in any PSYPACT-authorized state (including MD, DE, VA, DC, PA, and 30+ other states and territories).

Dr. Freeman-Coppadge is the CEO of Congruence Counseling & Psychology, LLC, which provides psychotherapy, consultation, and education services. He specializes in treating issues related to adjustment/transition, mood/anxiety, relationships, and identity (LGBTQ+, multicultural, etc.). He especially loves working with marginalized communities (LGBTQ+, racial/ethnic minorities, etc.) and young/emerging adults.

Dr. Freeman-Coppadge works with clients from a place of empathy, care, and humor. His therapeutic style is integrative, drawing primarily from evidence-based treatments like emotion-focused therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other relational/interpersonal approaches, all within a social justice framework.

Dr. Freeman-Coppadge earned a BS in Biochemistry (Spanish minor) from the University of Maryland College Park, then completed a PharmD and a residency in psychiatric pharmacy practice at the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Pharmacy. He later earned a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Massachusetts Boston. He has worked in mental health since 2005, initially as a psychiatric clinical pharmacist in state hospital and managed care settings, and later as a counseling psychologist working in college/university counseling settings. He has been in private practice since 2020. Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading, traveling, and being an amateur sci-fi geek.

Message to clients

If you feel like something is missing, like you’re struggling with things that are out of balance in your life, I’m here to help you become the person you truly wish to be, to find healing, wholeness, and a sense of congruence with your values and identities. I'll work with you to engage in meaningful introspection; explore your identities, roles, and place in larger systems; and delve into those sometimes overwhelming emotions convincing you that you're powerless to your circumstances.

You'll find me to be easy-going, approachable, and informal so that you feel safe, unpressured, and able to pursue your goals on your terms and in your time. In our time together, we will do some really tough work, but we'll do so with lots of fun and laughter along the way!
