Professional statement

Dawn Gomez is a licensed clinical social worker in Bel Air, Maryland. She works with adults of all ages. Many of Dawn’s clients come in to address anxiety, depression, loss and grief, relationship issues, and trauma. Dawn is particularly passionate about serving nurses, first responders, and caregivers. She also has advanced training in the area of adverse childhood experiences and attachment wounds.

Dawn is trained in EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and IFS. In integrating these treatments, she works with clients to ultimately identify negative thoughts, images, and sensations and replace them with positive ones. In session, Dawn focuses on assisting her clients to achieve a sense of calm as they process negative experiences. Dawn ensures that her clients leave the session feeling calmer by using various breathing and grounding techniques, mindfulness and meditation practices, and coping skills. This approach supports clients so that they can achieve their desired changes in their lives.

Dawn's style is active, engaging, non-judgmental, and goal-oriented with a touch of humor. When clients first start therapy, Dawn will work to understand the client's past history and identify targets for treatment as the work progresses.

Dawn received her MSW from Arizona State University. She has also worked at community mental health providing treatment for clients with a full range of mental health disorders. Outside of private practice, she loves traveling to foreign countries and learning about different cultures as well as studying foreign languages. Dawn offers both in-person and telehealth sessions.

Message to clients

When I talk to friends and family about going to therapy, I tell them, therapy is a great experience, if for no other reason, your therapist is a person who is strictly in your corner. A therapist is Team You! This is a person whose purpose in your life is to support you and to help you feel better. Beyond the support factor, there is power in telling your story to a person who does not already know you or your family. Just voicing your story helps you to gain insight. That, coupled with clarifying questions from your therapist, will help you find clarity for yourself. If you are trying therapy for the first time or have been in therapy before, you will be pleasantly surprised.

My hope for my clients is that in addition to gaining their own personal insights, they get the healing they desire as well. The modalities I use are evidence based, and they look a little different from all the therapy sessions you may have seen on TV shows or in movies. I work collaboratively with my clients to address the underlying problems that have led to the symptoms they are experiencing in order to help them feel better, while providing a safe, non-judgmental space for that healing to happen. If you’re ready, let’s talk more.
