Professional statement

Delilah Raybee is a somatic therapist in Oakland, CA. She can provide telehealth to people who live in California. She works with individuals and couples on anxiety, emotional regulation and relationship issues. Many of Delilah’s clients come in when either a single traumatic event or a lifetime of uncomfortable or overwhelming emotions has led to feeling disconnected from self and the present moment. Many people, without even knowing it, need guidance to help them learn how to access the body’s wisdom in order to heal emotional wounds. Delilah also has specialized training in working with couples somatically.

Delilah believes in the value of healing in both the mind and the body, which is why she practice’s somatic therapy. Somatic therapy works with the mind-body connection, aligning the whole self towards healing and growth. Delilah offers clients a therapy modality called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which has clinical evidence towards its efficacy in helping clients heal from trauma and become more resilient.

Delilah’s style is warm and personable. When a client first comes in, she will get to know the client’s unique history and goals for therapy. Delilah is dedicated to providing a relationship that is grounded and focused. In session, Delilah focuses on present moment challenges, family and cultural history and developing the body into a resource. This approach supports clients to feel more connected to self, better able to communicate in personal and professional relationships, and having a more friendly and adaptable inner monologue.

Delilah received their Master’s in Clinical Psychology with a focus in somatic therapy. They gained experience at the Center for Somatic Psychology before joining Blackbird Institute. Outside of private practice, Delilah enjoys time in nature, dance, and connecting with family and friends.

Message to clients

Somatic therapy is a journey back to yourself, starting with your body.

Like all therapy, Somatic therapy starts with where you are at. Whether you are someone with a history of inhabiting your body or a high degree of body awareness, or you are someone who is alienated from your body and may not even realize it, Somatic therapy can help you.

In a comfortable, supportive environment we will begin to explore together what happens to your emotional state when you pay attention to your body. When you start to notice your thoughts, emotions, images, and sensations that arise with a sense of curiosity instead of judgment, you learn kinder ways to treat yourself and healthier ways to interact with the world.

When your body is a resource to you, it’s harder to get swept away by anxious, fearful or angry thoughts or emotions. Somatic therapy can help you transform negative emotions into useful information that you can work with in your daily life. Over time, you can learn to take a breath and respond to challenges while feeling more grounded and connected to yourself and others.

I also work with couples using somatic therapy principles and techniques. I've completed the Gottman level two training, and combine their research-based interventions with helping you and your partner be present in the moment, slow down conflict, and find movement towards growth.
