Professional statement

Dr. Desiree Howell is a psychologist offering online therapy to adults in New York, Iowa, and all PsyPact states. She specializes in supporting high-achieving college students, career-oriented adults, and sensitive, neurodivergent women who face immense pressure to "keep it together." Her clients often struggle with perfectionism and self-doubt, despite appearing confident outwardly. Many are women striving to balance successful careers and connected family lives, leading to burnout, emotional fatigue, lack of motivation, and disconnection.

Dr. Howell's trauma-informed approach ensures a safe and secure therapeutic environment, especially for clients with trauma histories. She practices Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients move past painful memories and uses somatic embodiment and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapies to foster mind-body connection and inner healing. Additionally, she offers neurodiversity-affirming ADHD and Autism testing, recognizing and supporting diverse neurological experiences.

With a PhD from Ball State University, Dr. Howell integrates feminism and social justice into her practice, advocating for equality and inclusivity. Her goal is to collaborate with clients of all identities and backgrounds, helping them achieve their mental health goals and thrive authentically.

Message to clients

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all so I work collaboratively with you to create a personalized journey that we move through together at your own pace. You are the expert on you, so with our combined strengths, we can create safety to confidently navigate the path of healing and empowerment.

My style is warm, active, genuine, transparent, and humorous (when appropriate). I believe the foundation of successful therapy is a relationship in which you feel safe, heard, understood, & respected.

Using trauma-informed and holistic strategies, we will explore and practice skills related to boundary setting, self-care, relationships, understanding body sensations, & unlearning unhelpful messages from society & personal past events, to ultimately, figure out what your nervous system needs to feel safe so you can better trust your own inner wisdom.

You don’t need to try harder, you need to feel safer. Your needs matter and you deserve a life that feels good, not just one that looks good.
