Elaine Rooney is a licensed clinical psychologist in Westport, Connecticut. Many of Elaine's clients come to therapy as they experience challenges in their lives including processing traumatic or adverse childhood experiences, adjusting to changes, or are coping with clinical concerns including anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, personality disorders or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Elaine's approach to therapy is collaborative and compassionate. Her goal is to help clients reach their goals by enhancing coping strategies, gaining insight, and building confidence.
Elaine's extensive training has included a variety of therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP), psychodynamic psychotherapy, rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT), dialectal behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), client-centered therapy, and narrative therapy. In therapy, Elaine uses an integrative approach, being thoughtful about her clients' unique needs to consider which approach would best suit them. Primarily, her goal is to create a relationship that is safe, non-judgmental, and productive.
Elaine received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford, and prior to that a Master's in Clinical Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University.
