Professional statement

Dr. Sola is a Psychologist licensed in the state of California, practicing in Oakland, where he specializes in treating PTSD, anxiety and mood disorders, and psychosis, in adults as well as children. Many of his clients identify as neuro-divergent, have trauma histories, or self-describe as having disorganized attachment styles. His clients otherwise describe themselves as high-functioning, while often at an impasse in their lives which feels as though something must be taken into closer account.

In focusing his work on clients with treatment resistant symptoms, Dr. Sola uses both long-term depth psychotherapy to develop a sense of safety and familiarity with clients, as well as above ground psychedelic therapy options (currently ketamine) in order to catalyze therapeutic action and healing in places and situations where the client and therapist become "stuck," or at an impasse. He works in tandem with an MD Psychiatrist or Nurse Practitioner who evaluate and review medical concerns and handle prescriptions.

Evan also offers consultation for licensed colleagues in the field, supervision for those in pre-licensed or pre-certificate training years, and enjoys regular multidisciplinary work with other therapists and medical professionals. He provides ketamine assisted therapy for clients of colleagues who may find their work in a difficult bind, or who may benefit from a third perspective in order to move things along in treatment.

Dr. Sola is a researcher in the field of psychedelic psychotherapy, engaged in FDA clinical trials as a therapist and co-investigator at UCSF, as well as several other private practice research sites, where the safety and efficacy of MDMA for the treatment of PTSD is under investigation. He teaches and supervises for several organizations in the bay area on topics related to psychedelic and depth psychotherapy.

Message to clients

I find that most of my clients need more time and space for themselves, each week, to focus on what is most important to them. Over time stressors and life transitions mean that the client will inevitably need to lean on me more than they once did. I help clients understand how this is part of a deepening process in therapy, and that far from a step backward, this type of movement can bring rich and inchoate perspectives to the therapy, and into the client's life.

I'm trained and skilled in working with high functioning clients who understand that to move forward in their lives, sometimes they have to take a step back in order to gain a new, or more fitting, perspective that is more aligned with what is emerging in themselves.
