Professional statement

Heather Foster is a psychotherapist and is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), verbal psychotherapy, couples therapy, and creative arts therapies. She specializes in working with teens, adults, and couples in areas related to anxiety, depression, and PTSD/C-PTSD; sexuality and gender; substance use; and dynamics occurring in relationships.

Heather’s approach is relational, person-centered, and LGBTIA+ affirming. She values collaborating with clients to build a trusting environment in the therapeutic alliance. Heather invites compassion and curiosity into sessions so that clients can gain insight into their patterns, make meaning of their experiences, and live more fully in the present.

Heather’s services support her clients through a combination of creative arts therapies, EMDR, parts work like IFS, and verbal processing to expand beyond conventional talk therapy. This way of working leans into the brain and body's natural desire to move towards healing.

Heather’s sessions are held virtually via Zoom and in-person in downtown Brooklyn. She is available for a free 15 minute phone consultation to discuss themes related to reasons for seeking therapy, as well as discussing details like scheduling and billing.

Message to clients

Finding the right fit in a therapist is so important. Research shows there is a link between the positive benefits a person experiences from therapy and how a person views the connection they have with their therapist.

I have been told that my therapy style is compassionately direct while also being gentle, encouraging, and curious. I am committed to walking with my clients on their unique journeys. If you think that we might be a good fit, please feel free to reach out. I look forward to connecting with you.
