Jackson Melnick is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who focuses on the needs of people in their late twenties and thirties, with an emphasis on college-aged students. Some of his clients are experiencing interpersonal crises, or require talk therapy as part of psychiatric care, but many of his clients simply find it beneficial to meet once a week and discuss what is going on in their lives. His clients come to see therapy as a way to develop a greater sense of freedom: they connect to and accept their values and desires, find more creative and healthier ways of living those values out in the world, and cultivate the ability to cast away thoughts and habits that are not resonate with the life they want.
Drawing from a research and evidence-based approach to mental health care, Jackson uses a process of analytic reflection to help uncover what is true and what is false in your life, help you to realign with what is true, and ultimately to live out your values in the world with more confidence, grace and enthusiasm. His style is very conversational. He employs the Socratic method as a way of helping you learn more about yourself and the root causes of your emotional and mental strain, and sees therapy as a space to hear and discover your stories.
He is a lifelong learner and was once a student at Deep Springs College, Brown University (BA) and the University of Chicago (MA) where he studied CBT, DBT, ACT and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. As a social worker, he views each client as part of a dynamic, psychosocial whole.
