Dr. Finkelstein relies on research-based psychotherapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and somatic approaches for many common difficulties. He has extensive clinical experience working successfully with individuals who may have struggled for years and tried many approaches to fix their symptoms. Dr. Finkelstein particularly enjoys meeting and working with individuals who are ready to do more than just “survive”. He understands personally the experience of struggling with chronic pain as well as anxiety, and the importance of finding and creating a meaningful life even amidst difficult circumstances.
Dr. Finkelstein’s therapeutic approach is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is a mindfulness-based therapy focused on identifying what is most important in life and creating new ways to manage the obstacles getting in the way. When helpful, he also uses somatic approaches in therapy, which help the body to express and release tension that may have been stuck for years. Dr. Finkelstein’s style is warm, humorous and genuine, along with being active and collaborative in your care.
Dr. Finkelstein received his doctorate in Psychology from Loyola University Maryland. He has been in clinical practice for over 20 years, having worked with children and families, military veterans, individuals with addictions and trauma, and adults in clinical private practice.
