Jane Habermann is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor located in Sandpoint, ID. She has over 20 years of experience working with couples and families, and specializes in providing clients with the tools they need to regulate their emotions so they can avoid unhealthy conflict with their loved ones. Many of Jane’s clients feel that they have no control over their feelings, which can interrupt the conversations they have with their partners. This may be caused by past traumas or internalized shame, which can exacerbate anxiety or worry within a relationship. Many clients also turn to self-medication behaviors like drinking or smoking to cope with the stress in their lives and in their relationships.
Jane’s goal when working with couples is to provide a structured space that is non judgmental and feels safe for each person involved. Couples working with Jane work to grow emotionally and to create stronger bonds, which they do through the Gottman Method, cognitive behavioral techniques, psychodynamic approaches, and other creative therapy modalities. By placing emotions at the center of the conversation, Jane helps couples empathize with one another and learn how to work through difficult conversations together rather than taking an offensive or defensive side.
Jane earned a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute for Integral Studies. She brings evidence-based therapy strategies into her sessions, as well as her extensive experience as a mental health professional.
