Professional statement

Jennifer Collins is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in New York. Jennifer enjoys helping young adults and adults navigate difficult transitions. Many of her clients have recently left home to attend college, and are figuring out how to live a more independent life. This includes developing a greater sense of identity and engaging in mature relationships, which can come with feelings of anxiety. Jennifer also works with adults who are going through career transitions, divorces or break-ups, financial stress, or loss. These situations can lead to anxiety, depression, or elevated stress levels.

Jennifer’s approach to working with clients is holistic, incorporating both the mind and the body into the healing process. Jennifer is a Certified Yoga Instructor and has expertise in trauma-informed yoga, as well as Phoenix Rising Yoga. She encourages clients to practice breathwork and other mindfulness techniques to grow their self awareness. Jennifer also practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a thoughts-based therapy modality that helps clients identify and suppress negative thought patterns. These thought patterns might look like misguided beliefs or perceptions, or like harmful self-talk. By examining these thought patterns and finding healthy alternatives, clients increase their confidence and understanding of who they are and what their story is.

Jennifer earned a Master’s degree in Social Work. She helps clients to recognize their own strengths and to use their strengths to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Jennifer takes a humanistic approach to working with clients and is passionate about bringing about healing to both the mind and body.

Message to clients

Life is filled with ups and downs and when things get difficult, it can be helpful to speak to someone who can help guide and support you on your healing journey. I offer a warm and welcoming space and invite you to talk about your feelings and what brings you to therapy. I'll spend some time getting to know what your needs are and how I can best support you during our work together.

The first session is about asking questions and feeling safe enough to open up about your life experiences and what your goals are. It's okay if you don't have it all figured out. It takes time to understand where you've been and what you've been through in order to understand how certain behaviors, emotions and experiences are currently affecting your life.

I also believe in the body-mind connection and that "our issues are often stored in our tissues." Along with talk therapy, I may also incorporate yoga, guided stretches, journaling and meditation techniques to help foster more self-awareness, so that you can slowly release the physical impact of stress that often gets stuck in the body. It takes time to heal from past wounds and courage to ask for help in order to move forward. I look forward to supporting you on your path to wellness and self-discovery.
