Josie is a therapist based in SoHo, Manhattan, specializing in childhood trauma, shame, addictive behaviors, prevention, and long-term recovery counseling. Deeply committed to breaking intergenerational cycles, Josie is passionate about supporting not only folks in recovery but also minors impacted by parental substance use disorders, providing specialized care for children aged 10 and up whose parents are in recovery.
Alongside a decade of advanced training in addiction psychology and counseling across both the US and the UK, Josie also brings over eight years of experience supporting children and family systems through her work affiliated with the Hazelden Betty Ford Child and Family Services. Her clinical foundation with youth also includes dedicated therapeutic work within schools through the UK’s leading mental health charity, 'Place2Be.'
As the first generation in her family to attend university, Josie's trajectory over the last decade spans the roles of student, researcher, and faculty member. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Mental Health Counseling at Pace University in New York City, where her doctoral research will focus directly on intergenerational trauma and prevention strategies.
Recognized early on for her clinical insight, Josie was named a Subject Matter Expert by the American Counseling Association while still a graduate student at the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School. For her academic excellence and impact across the foundation, she was honored with the prestigious Slaymaker Scholar's award, both of which lead to an invitation to join graduate faculty. Josie leads graduate instruction at the intersection of human development, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. Driven by a heart-led mission for youth prevention and equitable care, she seamlessly bridges academia, advocacy, and practice, regularly training clinical workforces, student clinicians and other practitioners on treating trauma and addiction through a depth and systemic lens.
