Professional statement

Dr. Karen Midyet is a Clinical Psychologist located in Fort Collins, CO. She specializes in supporting adults and older adults as they navigate the stressors of major life changes. Many of her clients find themselves feeling unsettled in the face of a career change, beginning retirement, beginning or ending of relationships, or move. She particularly enjoys coaching women through retirement, providing the support needed to process the feelings that arise with such a big life change.

Dr. Midyet uses many evidence-based approaches to therapy with her clients. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a modality that helps clients put painful memories in the past. She also takes a cognitive-based approach when working with clients, teaching them how to become aware of unhealthy thought patterns. She teaches clients new coping skills to use when managing difficult emotions. As a therapist and a coach, Dr. Midyet is warm, engaging, and compassionate.

Dr. Midyet earned her PsyD from the University of Denver. She has a Master’s in Career Counseling from Columbia University. In addition, she is a Life Coach for Older Adults with over 20 years experience. She has over 45 years of experience helping others with their life changes as well as creating the life that they want, from adulthood through retirement. Her goal is to provide clients with the resources and encouragement they need to make meaningful changes in their lives and to feel content every day. Personal growth as we age is her specialty.

My current practice is remote, using Zoom, Face-time, or phone, as necessary. I am a PsyPac provider which means I am licensed to work remotely in 25 states. I am available for weekend hours on a case-by-case basis.

Message to clients

I am excited about working with you to create the life that you want using my Coaching skills, years of therapy practice as well as EMDR, when appropriate. I work best with people weekly. However, we will develop an individual coaching plan to decide what is the best way for you to accomplish your goals and tackle the challenges you may come up against.

I find it helpful for us to use a Life Review method that allows us to identify the strengths and weaknesses, previous challenges, and life circumstances that get in the way of personal growth and change. My clients consider me a compassionate coach and therapist. I am your supporter, your change agent, and the person who gently confronts your behavior as you work on your journey toward your life goals. Call me to see if we are a good fit. I would love to help you in any way that I can.
