Professional statement

Katherine Gotis is a Licensed Associate Counselor in Phoenix. She works with adolescents, adults, and families who desire healing and authentic connection with SELF and others. Her clients tend to be truth seekers and are willing to take up the often-challenging task of compassionate self-exploration. Katherine enjoys serving people who are motivated, committed to their own healing journey, inspired to do the work, and who want to go deep. She also loves working with young people and their families and supporting them to develop communication skills and ways of relating that promotes flourishing for all members.

Katherine is trained in Family Systems, EFT, & Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) which is grounded in neuroscience, interpersonal neurobiology, mindfulness, & somatics. AEDP focuses on healing suffering and encourages growth and transformance, while undoing the sometimes unbearable pain of aloneness. Sessions with Katherine are deep, transformative, and promote healing from the start. Her style is warm, compassionate, relational, emotion focused, and creative.

Uniquely sensitive to the needs of others, Katherine's background gives her a holistic perspective on mental/emotional health. In addition to being a counselor, Katherine is a Registered Nurse, a longtime Zen (mindfulness) practitioner, has taught/practiced yoga for over two decades, and she has curated and taught creative process workshops throughout the years.

She received her Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (emphasis in Somatics) at Prescott College. She trained in the complex art of family therapy at The Sky Center in Santa Fe, NM and is a Level 2 Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) practitioner. When not accompanying you on your healing journey, she enjoys hiking in the Sonoran Desert-even in summer- exploring the wild edges of mind, science, art, & culture, and contemplating the mysterious riddles of existence in its many forms.

Message to clients

What I know for sure and what science says too:

Relationships shape us. The experience of being seen, accepted, and understood by another person is a basic human need that when not met can lead to feelings of isolation, loneliness, and other painful emotions. Transformation and healing happen in the moment and in the context of relationships. My approach is open, accepting, compassionate, non-pathologizing, relational, emotion-focused, and somatic. My roots are in creative movement, yoga, mindfulness, neuroscience, systems theory, and I will meet you with a healthy dose of humor when appropriate. I support people seeking to heal intergenerational trauma while building authentic connections with themselves and with loved ones. Anxiety, depression, loss of meaning, and relational conflicts are but some of the ways a longing for authentic connection seeks our conscious and loving attention. My approach seeks to heal relational and developmental trauma via the therapeutic relationship, and my 13 years as an RN lend to our connection a unique sensitivity and capacity for understanding and holding the whole of this sometimes painful & mysterious human experience. Our work together will be present-tense, creative, collaborative, challenging, relational, transformative and in service to you.

Finally, context matters. Remember, we are living through extremely challenging times and everything hard might feel EXTRA hard right now. Counseling helps. I look forward to connecting with you soon- if I'm not a good match, I sincerely hope you find the perfect person to accompany you on your journey.

Warmly,

Katherine
