Kayla has worked with individuals with symptoms of depression and anxiety, difficult life transitions, substance use, and many other conditions that can take a toll on daily life.
Kayla’s approach is rooted in different models that include person-centered theory, a combined approach where Kayla helps guide and support the individual to create the change they would like to see in themselves; as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based approach that looks at thinking patterns and feelings and how they relate to our behaviors. All clients are different and Kayla tailors her approach in order to best serve each individual.
Kayla’s style is collaborative, focusing on a trust building relationship that fosters a safe environment to help create sustainable changes. Her priority is having the client feel heard.
Kayla received her Master’s in Counseling from Johnson and Wales University. She has worked in the mental health field for over 10 years with experience in home-based, inpatient, and residential settings. Kayla welcomes all individuals to the practice.
Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
Life transitions - Coping with difficult or impactful life changes, such as moving to a new area, relationship transitions, child rearing, or career changes; learning self-care to better manage resulting stress
Alcohol use disorder & addiction - Tolerating emotional discomfort; reducing or eliminating reliance on alcohol; development of new coping mechanisms for stress and suffering.
Mood disorders - Clinical depression, persistent depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders that cause disturbances in the client's mood, causing mood swings, restless sleep, and/or elevated mood
Stress management - Strengthening effective ways of coping with the stress of life and change; managing expectations of self and others
