Professional statement

Laura Starr is a versatile, experienced clinician with expertise in tailoring treatment to each client's individual needs and situation. She provides active support while also resourcing each client's internal strengths to meet the challenges they face. The therapy session truly belongs to the client and Laura welcomes and encourages feedback about working together and/or anything that might need addressing. Laura offers support that is unconditional so that clients can feel emotionally vulnerable and free from judgment. This is especially important for clients who carry shame around behaviors they might be wanting to change or stop, but still haven't figured out how to begin or maintain changes.

What to expect working with Laura:

Laura works together with each client to develop a treatment strategy that prioritizes their goals. Laura uses a combination of several treatment frameworks and strategies, as she has learned over the years there is no one treatment that works for everyone. Clients can expect that Laura will do an initial assessment that is more like a conversation than an interview to help clients feel comfortable. If clients have been in treatment before and feel overwhelmed by having to tell their story again, Laura believes strongly in ensuring the assessment process does not feel repetitive. Clients can expect that Laura will explain treatment strategies and the reason why this strategy has been selected. Laura aims to help each client feel empowered with new insights and an understanding of their emotional world.

In a modern world with so much disconnection, Laura strives to help each clients feel heard, seen, and less alone in navigating their emotional and external experiences. There IS possibility for some relief, connection, and growth even when it feels hopeless.

Message to clients

Sometimes reaching out for support can be a difficult part of taking care of ourselves. I will work to make the process as easy and comfortable as possible. I view each initial appointment as an opportunity for me to hear about what a client is looking for, but also a chance for prospective clients to get a sense of who I am as a therapist. I encourage each client to think about what they need to feel supported and comfortable so that we can create a therapeutic relationship that is truly meaningful and effective.
