Professional statement

Lisa Ulanoff is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the Financial District of Manhattan, a few blocks away from both the east and west side trains. The majority of her clients are adults struggling with PTSD or trauma from childhood. She helps clients with depression, anxiety, relationship and attachment issues, or just with a general sense of feeling stuck. She has extensive training in trauma and Buddhist studies, and much of her work involves incorporating neuroscience with the wisdom of the body to transform and heal.

Sessions involve the art of naming difficult feelings, finding them in the body through the use of sensations, and learning how to digest and clear stuck emotional states. Clients will learn how to stop thoughts and see which ones are useful and how to let go of thoughts that are no longer needed. You will be given many tools that you can use on your own in order to self heal. Clients also learn to fine tune to themselves and find an inner guidance inside. These sessions help clients utilize a tenderness that is deep within them covered over by their history and conditioning. Within these sessions you find your natural capacities, and experience yourself as calm, spacious or through a profound stillness.

Lisa holds certification in Somatic Experiencing and Core Energetics, is a graduate of Developmental Trauma Studies through the Center for Intentional Living, and has spent 14 years studying the Buddhist Diamond Approach. She welcomes new clients to become the healer to their own nervous system and to discover that they can thrive in whatever they are moved to do in this life. Feel free to call with any questions. Skype sessions can also be an effective option if you are unable to get to her office.

Message to clients

In working with your unique history, I help you find your own self regulation and self empowerment around areas in your life that trigger trauma symptoms, cause depression, anxiety, anger, obsessions, addictions or unwanted behaviors. The basic philosophy behind my work is that if you can name the feeling that is exiled or strongly avoided, and meet it with a tenderness that is innate but covered up by conditioning, then transformation happens, healing transpires.
I create a safe space for you to bring your issues and problems, no matter what they may be. You will learn how to become intimate with the thoughts and feelings surrounding your issues. You will learn how to deeply experience yourself as you are, learn to witness your thoughts and discriminate which ones support you, and access a deep calm, stillness and spaciousness within yourself.
