Manuela Mage is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, credentialed in the tristate area of New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts. She works with folks who are dealing with anxiety and depression, adjustment disorders, major life changes, such as cultural adjustments, and grief and loss, of various types. Many of Manuela’s clients, seek her out when struggling with contextual depression and anxiety, when going through profound changes rooted in loss, grief or major life transitions and when they are stuck in a personal or professional rut. Manuela is particularly passionate about serving folks who are struggling with finding their space and their strengths. She also has advanced training in the areas of PTSD, Integrative Body-Mind Healing, Complex Grief, Stress Reduction, and Mindfulness.

Manuela's style is psychodynamic. As an experienced clinician and supervisor she has worked with individuals, families and groups. Building a good therapeutic alliance is the first step to a good raport.

Manuela started out as massage therapist, and later earned a BA in Linguistics and Languages in Portugal. Having completed a Master’s in Social Work and a Doctor of Psychology in Human and Organizational Psychology at the Touro College and University Systems helped her gain experience in her fields. Manuela's field work at Jewish Family Services, Oncology Support Center of Kingston, and Catholic Charities of Portugal (Coimbra), as well as a long term clinician at Maimonides Medical Center, provided her with deep experience in helping folks struggling with addictions, grief, severe and pervasive mental illness, and professional changes. Outside of private practice, she is an avid reader, enjoys long walks, and long talks with friends, cooking, and feeling that she is part of the various communities she identifies with, both here and in Portugal.

Message to clients

Our early experiences inform how we interact with the world. My multi-cultural experience and approach has taught me that there are many perspectives and attachments styles. Your life story is unique, and together, we will explore how to bring about desired changes in your relationships with others, and yourself. Therapy, when client centered, can be a life changing experience. I invite you to discover your inner strengths and your sense of agency.

My years of experience with group and individual therapy in a large urban hospital provided me with a solid set of skills and tools, from which I draw on for our work, respecting your contexts, your culture and your personality.

I invite you to try a warm, and collaborative approach that will help you find resolution and closure to many of your life challenges.
