Manuela Stalman is a Licensed Master Social Worker and psychotherapist based in New York City, where she was born and raised. She received her MSW from the Columbia School of Social Work and specializes in trauma-informed, strengths-based care. She has experience working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, recovery from trauma, life transitions, grief, and relationship and interpersonal conflicts. Manuela identifies as White and Latina, and is a native Spanish speaker as the daughter of Argentine parents.
Manuela became a social worker and psychotherapist following a career shift from the world of art and design. After training as a jeweler and goldsmith, Manuela found herself connected with the stories and milestones that clients imbued into her pieces. She transitioned into the world of social service by way of working with older adults.
At Columbia, Manuela spent her Advanced Year Clinical Internship working with survivors of violence ages twelve and up at New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, offering a wide range of services including safety planning, crisis intervention, counseling, and advocacy. This experience shaped the foundation of her clinical and relational approach as she learned firsthand the depths of growth and healing that can come from moments of severe pain and trauma.
Applying an integrated approach depending on the needs of her clients, Manuela draws from relational and psychodynamic therapies, incorporating tools from cognitive behavioral therapy, somatic therapy, mindfulness practices and family systems therapy. She considers social, emotional, psychological and cultural dynamics, and works from an actively anti-racist and anti-opressive framework. She is interested in the process of identity formation, and the ways systemic structures affect this development.
Manuela is only seeing clients remotely via telehealth at this time.
