Professional statement

Dr. Matt Zimmerman is a board certified psychologist whose practices in multiple states as well as the District of Columbia. Dr. Zimmerman works with career-focused students and professionals who feel a lack of balance in their lives, or are struggling with meaning and purpose. Dr. Zimmerman works with clients to address perfectionism, develop healthy work-life blend, improve personal and professional relationships, and align life goals with a clearer understanding of each person's authentic self.

In a session with Dr. Zimmerman, clients often report feeling as though the emotional work is challenging and at times uncomfortable, while experiencing a lightening of mood and noticing substantive change to thoughts, feelings and ways of being. Dr. Zimmerman supports clients as they develop a better emotional and intellectual understanding of themselves and how past ways of being and feeling has impacted self-worth. By creating a therapy environment in which we take the work seriously yet ourselves less so, Dr. Zimmerman promotes meaningful change through a genuine therapeutic relationship grounded in the contemporary evidence base in relational psychology.

Dr. Zimmerman earned his Doctorate of Psychology from Nova Southeastern University's Center for Psychological Studies. He has an extensive background in psychotherapy, doctoral training in psychology and leadership.

Message to clients

We all struggle at some point in our lives with our relationships, careers, family roles, coping with our past, and meaning making. My goal is to help you process those struggles in a way that helps you have the most purpose, impact and satisfaction in your life.

I bring a relational and emotion focused lens, rooted in contemporary neuroaffective approaches that tend to result meaningful and often more timely change. We will collaboratively come to understand your experiences in a visceral sense rather than purely intellectual. You are the expert of you, and my role is to help facilitate change by experiencing thoughts and feelings differently within our therapeutic space.

If you are ready to take that next step in therapy, then I look forward to working with you.
