Dr. Michael Koren is a Clinical Psychologist in Cambridge, MA. He works with adults of all ages who are striving to live their lives with less stress and greater purpose. Many of his clients come in when they realize events from the past are impacting their relationships and self-worth now, or when depression, anxiety, and stress become overwhelming. Dr. Koren pulls from evidence-based approaches to tailor treatment to each individual, creating a new toolkit to help them meet their goals.
Dr. Koren has deep expertise in trauma, which can take many forms, including physical symptoms such as frequent illness or difficulty sleeping, as well as chaotic relationship histories. He works closely with each client to find a balanced daily routine, which might include mindfulness practices or practical problem-solving skills. At the heart of his work is a strong therapeutic relationship, where no issue is too big or too small to be safely explored.
Dr. Koren’s goal is to help clients rediscover their sense of meaning and purpose through a combination of existential dialogue and concrete coping strategies.
Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse

Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
Stress management - Strengthening effective ways of coping with the stress of life and change; managing expectations of self and others
Relationship issues - Understanding one’s wants and needs in relationships; exploring patterns of interaction, addressing concerns, and strengthening satisfaction in relationships and dating
Insomnia - Exploring ways to improve sleep patterns, develop healthy sleep hygiene, master relaxation techniques, manage stressors, reduce worrying, and address insomnia
Existential challenges - Supportive exploration of meaning and purpose in one’s life; finding one’s path in the face of existential anxiety, dread, and feelings of meaninglessness
Self-esteem - Cultivating self-compassion, assertiveness, and confidence; developing ways to reduce suffering, anxiety, social withdrawal, and self-neglect
