Milagros Chatelain
She/Her/Hers
Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHCShe/Her/Hers
Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHCBorn and bred in the Bronx, Milagros (Millie) has dedicated her work to de-stigmatizing issues related to mental health for people of color, as black and indigenous people of color (BIPOC) are far less likely to seek care for a mental illness. As an Afro-Latina woman herself, Millie is a skilled practitioner in working with bodies of culture, especially Women of Color. Her overarching goal is to circumvent the disparities between white bodies and bodies of culture as it relates to the pursuit of treatment for mental illness and to make mental health care available to all.
Millie specializes in the treatment of C-PTSD and other trauma related co-occurring disorders. Millie has extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Somatic practices specific to the treatment of individuals living with trauma. Millie is also trained in helping individuals suffering from Dissociative disorders including but not limited to Dissociative Identity Disorder, Depersonalization, and Derealization.
Millie uses a person-centered approach in combination with psycho-education to not only arm individuals with information regarding their condition but also to provide a safe, nonjudgemental space where individuals can explore their lived experiences and receive support.
