Professional statement

Mindy Walls is a clinical social worker providing treatment to adult individuals living in Rhode Island. Many clients present for treatment with complaints of depression, anxiety, or of a general experience of feeling lost, stuck, or disconnected from themselves and often, others. Many clients present in the midst of great life transitions: entering or moving through college, relationship difficulties, or on the precipice of making a career change or other significant life changes. Mindy has experience working with a variety of folks across life's spectrum: cisgendered people, queer and questioning folks, activists and students of all ages, BIPOC people, folks with access to financial resources and folks without, people with ADHD and executive dysfunctions, midlife caregivers, professionals, people living with chronic illness or acute mood disorder episodes, and more.

Mindy works collaboratively and respectfully with her clients. She is warm and thoughtful as well as honest and challenging in relationship with her clients. Mindy’s work is grounded in existential and psychodynamic theories, present-oriented awareness, and is relationally-based. In essence, how did we get to where we are now, how are we now, and how do we live the life we want to live, and become the person we want to become? What is in the way of us showing up fully in this moment? Mindy supports her clients to identify unhelpful patterns they have developed over the course of their lives, and work toward trying something new. As a social worker, Mindy is trained to carefully examine the social, economic, and political systems at play in her client’s complaints. Mindy's work is rooted in a belief in the worth and dignity of all people.

Message to clients

These are very hard times.

Political turmoil, the climate crisis, the ongoing impact of the COVID pandemic, broader social and financial insecurities, to more immediate challenges of being a college student, the recent loss of loved one, or a depressive episode that is here now. I am here to support you and see you through, navigating the pleasant and painful with you. I do not have all of the answers but I believe that in spite of life's challenges, we can live a rich and meaningful life. Whether you are needing more immediate safety and/or stabilization for acute suffering, or interested in deeper personal growth and inner exploration (or both!), I can help you. I work hard to cultivate a space where you can enter with the many complicated parts of who you are and your experience of suffering, and be met with compassion, affirmation, and curiosity. It would be an honor to be a support for you in your process of growing, adapting, and moving forward on your journey.

Please note that I do request a brief consultation call if you are interested in working together to get a sense of what you may need, assess that I may be a good fit for you, and generally to hear one another's voices before committing to this work together. I am an experienced telehealth provider.
