She is passionate about teaching clients how to be compassionate towards themselves and integrates Buddhist philosophy into her work. Therapy sessions with Dr. Arbit involve the deepening of insight and self understanding, as well as skill building using evidence based strategies. Her warm, inquisitive and customized approach supports clients in finding pathways towards greater meaning and fulfillment, overcoming emotional and/or relational challenges, reducing perfectionism and changing patterns around addictive behaviors including substance use and overeating. In working with her, clients build resilience and improve their functioning and overall health.
Dr. Arbit earned a Master’s degree in Bioethics from NYU, a Master’s degree in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master’s degree in Applied Physiology and Nutrition and a PhD in Behavioral Nutrition from Columbia University. She has conducted and published pioneering research on eating behavior and is trained to teach Mindful Self Compassion, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.
