Professional statement

Dr. Pia Scaglione is a clinical psychologist with practice locations in New Canaan, CT and Bronxville, NY. She is also available for virtual sessions for residents who live in PsyPact participating states. She works with adults throughout the lifespan in individual therapy, and has over 20 years of clinical experience. Her areas of expertise include depression, adjustment to college/graduate school, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, grief and loss, and managing life transitions.

In therapy, Dr. Scaglione works collaboratively with you to explore behavior patterns or perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling life, and will work with you to develop healthier ways of coping. Together you will explore how previously adaptive ways of coping may no longer work in new relationships or situations. Dr. Scaglione creates a safe and nurturing therapeutic space, where difficult or painful feelings can be explored with curiosity and free from judgement. Depending on your goals, both short and long term treatment are available.

Dr. Scaglione's approach to treatment is rooted in psychodynamic and relational therapy, with a supportive and collaborative style. She is an LGBTQ-affirmative therapist and her perspective is strength based and anti-racist.

Message to clients

The people who I work with often come to therapy after a change in their life has led them to question how they can overcome difficult situations and understand their decisions in order to live a more meaningful life, and improve their relationships to self and others. Transitions such as starting college, having a child, losing a loved one, or ending a relationship are often events that cause a shift in understanding of ourselves and our worlds. Expectations about how life should be may not fit our reality, and ways of coping that may have previously been effective become problematic.

Once old patterns, perspectives, or reactions are recognized and understood, we are able to see how to make changes in order to move towards relationships and choices that contribute to greater overall life satisfaction

My goal in treatment is to help you gain insight into your life in order to make positive changes and live your life to its fullest. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve the challenges you face in your life moving forward.
