Portia Bajwa is a licensed clinical social worker based in New York and serving clients throughout New York and Washington state. She supports individuals and couples along a path of increased connection towards self and others. She specializes in complex trauma, anxiety, relationship issues, work stress, and identity exploration. Her clients come to therapy in search for ways to feel empowered and connect with their authentic selves. Portia is particularly passionate about serving historically underrepresented populations in the therapeutic space, specializing in both BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ populations.
Portia’s clinical approach is informed by modalities like Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic therapy, and mindfulness practices. She uses a combination of body-based techniques and IFS principles to facilitate a deeper connection between her clients and their unique parts. Adopting a power-with approach, she guides clients along their unique healing journey, introducing curiosity, compassion, and understanding as guiderails. Portia promotes an experiential approach to therapy, meaning that her clients come into a more embodied experience of the issues they’re seeking to address. This method of therapy allows for a deeper, and often faster, path to understanding and growth.
Portia’s approach to therapy is collaborative and directive in nature. Towards the beginning of the therapeutic process, she works with her clients to contract around what they’re hoping therapy will offer them. With those goals in mind, Portia orients her clients around her approach to therapy, guiding them through exercises, techniques, and homework that support their goals. Portia is intentional about attuning to each person’s desired goals and pace in the therapy space, and tailors her therapy modalities to best match the needs of her clients.
Portia has received training in the STAIR method, IFS, Somatic Therapy, and PACT for couples. She sees individuals and couples virtually throughout Washington and New York state.
