Professional statement

Dr. Rebekah Montgomery is a clinical psychologist in Washington DC specializing in couples therapy, premarital counseling, and relationship issues. Though the focus of her practice is currently on couples therapy, she also has expertise in trauma, grief, anxiety, and depression. She completed training at Harvard Medical School and Boston University Medical School among other institutions.

For couples, Dr. Montgomery offers private couples therapy sessions, private pre-marital counseling, as well as one day pre-marital group workshops. In pre-marital counseling, Dr. Montgomery offers couples the education, skills, and a safe space to have important conversations about the critical pieces of building a life together. Engagement is a special time when couples celebrate their love and commitment to each other, but while all couples want a happy fulfilling marriage, no one is born knowing how to be married. Most individuals have achieved success in the important areas of their lives from education, knowledge, hard work, and practice, and marriage is no different. Pre-marital counseling is an opportunity for couples to prepare for the rewarding and challenging experience of marriage.

Dr. Montgomery has advanced training in a number of treatment modalities, including cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, interpersonal, emotion focused, and mindfulness and acceptance based interventions. She is interactive, direct, and solution-focused, offering support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. With compassion and understanding, she works with clients to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.

Message to clients

People seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Therapy can be useful if you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation, to face and feel free from your past, improve your relationships, or to work towards personal growth and change. Therapy can be helpful if stressors are getting overwhelming, relationships are disappointing, or if some aspect of your life is not working.
Clients and colleagues describe my style as warm, genuine, caring and active. I believe establishing a strong, safe, and trusting therapy relationship is the foundation for success and change in therapy. I have extensive experience working with clients facing depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, as well as self esteem and relationship difficulties. I work with clients navigating struggles or dissatisfaction within their career or educational endeavors. I also provide couples therapy and have expertise working with couples around improving emotional connection, intimacy and communication. In a supportive non-judgmental atmosphere, I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each of my clients individual needs to help attain the growth and change they’re striving for.
